quilts
Textiles engage my brain and hands in very different ways than writing does. I sew and machine quilt on a Singer Style-O-Matic, a Pfaff Creative 2140, and a Bernina Virtuoso 160, working with 100 percent cotton quilting fabrics, thread, and batting. Like many handmade objects, my work contains technical errors, demonstrates growth as I acquire skills and new techniques, and reflects many hours of labor. I have a deep appreciation for art that is designed to be enjoyed and displayed for aesthetics, while also being used, beloved, and hopefully handed down to the next generation or a fellow human in need, and it is always a pleasure to see my work out in the wild.
I am proud to be part of a long tradition not just of skilled craft, but explicitly politicized textiles.
